There are many worthwhile destinations that provide students with rich learning opportunities. Travelling to places such as Guelph Lake Nature Centre, the River Run Centre, Everdale Farm and the Butterfly Conservatory allows for hands-on experiences that inspire learning and are long-lasting. We will attempt to visit at least one excellent venue this school year.
Guelph Lake Nature Centre
The Guelph Lake Nature Centre is part of the 1608-hectare (3,971-acre) property of the Guelph Lake Conservation Area. The centre overlooks Guelph Lake and the Guelph Lake Dam. The lake and dam, the Speed River, open fields and a nearby conifer plantation provide a great diversity of habitats for learning about the natural world.
Everdale Farm
Everdale offers community and farm school programs that foster the development of environmental literacy and stewardship. We believe that these programs provide meaningful learning for children and are essential in helping to create innovative solutions for an ecologically sustainable future.
Butterfly Conservatory
Situated on a 117 acre site which includes the environmental sensitive Kossuth Bog, the 25,000 square foot facility includes a 10,800 square foot indoor tropical garden featuring 1000’s of free flying butterflies from all over the world, over 100 different varieties of tropical plants, waterfalls, streams, reflecting pools, tropical finches, Chinese painted quails and red-eared slider turtles.
